About Country Corner Greenhouse

Country Corner Greenhouse has been in business for 27 years.

We moved out to Shepherdsville from Louisville in 1980. Mom and Dad, Ted and Carlene Vowels, childhood sweethearts, decided they wanted to open their own business. Mom's family owned greenhouses in Louisville and Dad started working for my grandfather and uncle at the age of 12. He learned everything he needed to and decided he could do this on his own. In 1981 Country Corner Greenhouse opened their doors and never looked back. Most of you probably don’t remember the “shack” with the one greenhouse attached to the back. Boy, I do. The “shack” held on for  years. It went through many, many seasons with us until we decided it was time to go. We now have a wonderful garden center and 13 greenhouses. Ted Jr. has 9 greenhouses on his property.Gives us plenty of space to grow the amazing flowers we do every year. 

Dad and Mom did everything they could to survive those years. They worked from sun up to sun down. Luckily they had a few kids for child labor, who came kicking and screaming after school to work. Teddy has been Dad's right hand for 25 years and has learned so much from Dad. I really don't see how they remember and do what they do.  Back in the days they would grow anything they could think of to sell; fresh produce, bedding plants, hanging baskets, perennials and for a few years we use to travel to a lot of the festivals around Kentucky and set up a booth with all of our beauties. They sacrificed so much to keep the business going and food on the table. Their hard work and dedication to raising nothing but quality plants is the reputation we have had since 1981. It is nice to hear someone say “you know when you buy a plant from Country Corner it is going to live.”

All of us kids, Teddy, Dora, Lisa and myself (Ann) have worked at Country Corner. The busy times are  what brings everyone together. It is nice when we are all there helping out. The employees we have are very knowledgable and helpful. If they don't know the answer, they will certainly find it or you. There is nothing like a “family business.” We’ve considered it a privilege to serve you over the last 27 years. To you, our faithful customers, thank you for all of your support and friendships.
